Bernie and Judith  Homan

Picture
Bernie and Judith Homan 1978
We built our home at 61 Piddington Street in 1959.  The property was formerly part of a double allotment belonging to the Atkinsons on our top side.  Their home has just recently (2013) been built-in underneath but remains true to its original style.  The Hordens lived on the down side at number 65 and their home remained until 2013 when it was removed and replaced.  We remember our neighbours very fondly.
We recall the installation of sewerage in 1964.  Prior to that we all had the iconic outhouse.
Bernie was a dentist.  Judith belonged to the Ashgrove Womens Club for some years.  It was a popular outlet for women who in those days rarely went outside the home to work.  We invited a broad variety of guest speakers on topics ranging from investment and homosexuality and rotated our meeting in the homes of the members.  It grew by word of mouth.  I invited a neighbour from across the road to join.  It was a popular club and as it grew, we needed a waiting list for new members.
