ST. JOHN’S WOOD MEMORIES
Philip and Priya

Picture
40 Grand Pde circa 2015
40 Grand Parade is the big home overlooking the 6 ways at the top of Piddington Street. It was built by the Glynnes in the 1940’s and occupied by them till their lives came to an end.  Mr. Andy Glynne was a well-known character, with a sack over his shoulder and walking his Labrador. In his later years, he would sit on the garden seat overlooking The Woods and say to anyone passing in his loud voice and waving his hand over the vista, “It’s bloody beautiful”. Phillip and Priya live there now.  This is Phillip’s rendition.

“Cooling breezes, rustling trees, twittering birds and flutterbys jostle my eyes.
Children scamper, dogs romps as skateboards fly.
Ginger cat and tawny frogmouths watch.
Cheeky rooster calling, chooks free range.
My sense of a decade camped in St. John’s Wood.”
